Red Raiders Fall 4-1 in Season Finale

LUBBOCK, Texas - Redshirt freshman Amy Mathiak found the back of the net for the first time in her collegiate soccer career, but it was not enough to lift Texas Tech soccer to a victory in its season finale on Sunday as the team fell to No. 22 Nebraska, 4-1, at R.P. Fuller Stadium.

Tech played well early in the match, but the Cornhuskers were able to take advantage of several opportunities and build a 3-0 lead on a pair of goals by leading-scorer Brittany Timko and a tally from Sasha Andrews.

In the 40^th minute, the Red Raiders were able to draw a NU foul in the offensive end and set up for a free kick from 30 yards in front of the `Huskers net. Mathiak, who had just minutes before narrowly missed a goal on a similar chance, took the kick and unleashed a high powerful shot that found its way past Nebraska goalkeeper Jamie Klages.

Senior goalkeeper Beth Lippert started the match for Tech and collected four saves while played five minutes into the second half before being replaced by fellow senior Megan Knauss, who finished the contest with five stops in goal. For the two net minders as well as midfielder Karen Stephens and forward Kimmie Davis, the match was the final contest of their Red Raider soccer career.

After halftime, Tech continued its strong play into the second half, creating several scoring chances from Davis, who lead the team with three shots in the match, and freshman Chessa Purser. However, Tech was unable to keep the `Huskers off the board in the period as Timko completed the hat trick with her third goal of the match at the 85:42 mark.

With the loss, the Red Raiders finish their season with a 1-17 overall mark and a 0-10 record in conference action. Nebraska, meanwhile, ends its regular season with a 12-6-1 record and a 6-3-1 clip in Big 12 play.
