LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior QB Cody Hodges (Hereford, Texas) was named the SBC Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday for his 643-yard passing performance against Kansas State over the weekend. The passing yards represent the fourth best single-game total in NCAA Division I history and sixth-best total in all divisions.
Hodges completed 44-of-65 passes and threw five scoring strikes in leading Tech to the 59-20 win. He hit eight different receivers, including four who logged over 100 yards each. Additionally, last week's Big 12 offensive player of the week, Joel Filani, set the school record with 255 receiving yards against KSU.
In addition to picking up the weekly honor, Hodges also is a finalist for the Cingular Wireless/ABC Sports All-American of the Week award and USA Today Player of the Week honor.
Texas Tech (6-0, 3-0 Big 12), which is ranked eighth in the latest USA Today Coaches poll and 10th in the Associated Press poll, heads to Austin this weekend for a showdown with second-ranked Texas (6-0, 3-0 Big 12). The game will kickoff at 2:30 p.m. on ABC.
