Solid Showing for Cross Country in Fayetteville

Lubbock, Texas - The Texas Tech cross country squads competed in the Chile Pepper Invitational, in Fayetteville, Ark., on Sat., Oct. 15. The women's squad finished in seventh place, while the men's team recorded a 10th-place finish.
For the women, Irene Kimaiyo was the top Tech finisher with an overall and cumulative finish of third place with her clocking of 20:41.2 in the 6K race. Second for the Red Raiders was Violet Chemakwila with a time of 20:53.2 and an overall place of seventh and a cumulative place of 10th. Rounding out the top three was Jessica Stovall who recorded a time of 22:24.6, good for an overall place of 58th and a cumulative place of 68th.
The women's squad finished ahead of Big 12 opponents Oklahoma (23rd) and Kansas State (27th) and Mountain Region opponents Wyoming (8th), UTEP (17th), Utah (21st) and New Mexico State (25th).
For the men, Kevin Chelimo led the way with an overall and cumulative place of seventh with his time of 28:55.3 in the men's 10K race. Benson Cheserek was the second Tech finisher with an overall placing of 33rd, a cumulative place of 40th and a time of 30:35.7. Rounding out the top three for the men was Kyle Atwood, who clocked a 341:49.9, good for a 71st overall place and a 111th cumulative placing.
The men's squad finished ahead of Big 12 opponents Nebraska (16th), Kansas State (17th) and Baylor (20th) and ahead of regional foe New Mexico State (27th)
Next up for Red Raider cross country is the Big 12 Championships meet in Waco, Texas, on Fri., Oct. 28.
