CAREER DAY FOR HENDERSON
Senior Taurean Henderson set a new NCAA record for the most career receptions by a running back with his first reception of the game at the 14:35 mark in the first quarter. Henderson entered today's game with 262 career receptions and finished with 10 to give him 272 all-time.
- Henderson scored the game's first touchdown when he scored on a four-yard run to give Tech a 9-6 lead. The TD was the 41st rushing touchdown of his career and 57tht overall.
- Henderson added to his touchdown total in the third quarter but this time on the receiving end when he scampered in on a 21-yard pass from Hodges. The receiving TD was his third of the season and the 17th of his career.
- Henderson's third touchdown of the game with 2:49 remaining in the third quarter gave him his second rushing TD of the game and was his fourth multiple touchdown game of the season and his third three-TD game.
- Set a new career-high with his fourth touchdown of the game late in the third quarter. Henderson's touchdown was a two-yard rush and it also marked the fourth time in his career that he has posted a three rushing-touchdown game.
- Henderson tied the school record for most touchdowns in a single game when he added his fifth on a 39-yard pass from Cody Hodges.
HICKS SETS CAREER RECEIVING TOUCHDOWN RECORD
Junior wide receiver Jarrett Hicks took over as the career leader for receiving touchdowns when he hauled in his 23rd with 11:34 remaining in the third quarter. The 20-yard touchdown pass from Cody Hodges moved Hicks past Mickey Peters (2000-03) who caught 22 touchdown passes during his four-year career with the Scarlet & Black.
ANOTHER BIG SATURDAY FOR FILANI
Sophomore wide receiver Joel Filani had another big day for the Red Raider offense. Last week, Filani was Tech's top offensive weapon as he racked up 163 yards receiving and three touchdowns (including the game winner) against Nebraska.
- Tallied 134 yards on six catches to lead the Red Raider offense in the first half.
- Finished the game with 255 yards receiving and that set a new Texas Tech school record for the most receiving yards in a single game. The previous record was 251by Rodney Blackshear against Houston in 1991.
- Was the master of the big play as he posted catches of 25, 26, 28, 30, 47 and 62 yards.
- Finished the game with one touchdown.
HE'S A BIG HITTER!
Senior strong safety Dwayne Slay knows how to pack a punch. As he is accustomed to doing, Slay delivered most of the game's biggest hits and added to his outstanding fumble's forced numbers. Slay now has six forced fumbles this season and that leads the Big 12 Conference (NCAA does not track forced fumbles).
- Slay registered his fifth forced fumble of the season when he put an end to Kansas State's first drive of the third quarter. Slay's forced fumble came after a nine-yard completion that would have given the Wildcats a first down fairly deep in Texas Tech territory. Sylvester Brnkley recovered the fumble and it was his first recovery of the season.
- He delivered undoubtedly the biggest hit of the season (for any Tech player) late in the third quarter when he pounded KSU quarterback Allan Evridge to force his sixth fumble of the season.
HODGES PILES UP BIG YARDAGE
Senior quarterback Cody Hodges finished the game with 643 yards passing along with five touchdowns. The 643 yards ranks second on the single-game passing list at Tech. The 643-yard game ranks fourth on the NCAA single-game passing list.
- Finished with a career-high 65 attempts and 44 completions.
MISCELLANEOUS RECORD WATCH
- Sophomore Alex Trlica moved into fourth place on the all-time PAT list at Tech when he picked up his 93rd after Tech's third touchdown of the game in the third quarter. Trlica moved past Scott Segrist who had 92 career PAT's between 1985 and 1988.
- Senior Vincent Meeks moved into a tie for sixth place on the all-time interception list at Texas Tech when he picked off Allan Evridge late in the third quarter. Meeks now has 11 interceptions and is tied with Ryan Aycock (2000-03).
NOTING THE RED RAIDERS
- Sophomore Alex Trlica gave the Red Raiders a 3-0 lead in the first quarter when he connected on a 26-yard field goal. The field goal was the only Tech points of the first quarter and that marked a season low for the Red Raider offense.
- Kansas State's field goal with 5:48 remaining in the first quarter marked the first points given up by the Texas Tech defense in the first quarter this season. The Wildcats added another field goal with 10:36 remaining in the second quarter to mark the first time that Tech has trailed in the first half this season.
- The 80-yard touchdown reception by Kansas State's Jordy Nelson marked the longest play given up by the Red Raider defense this season. Tech entered today's game having given up just four plays that went for 25 or more yards.
- Robert Johnson notched Tech's first receiving touchdown (34-yards) of the game with 1:14 remaining in the first half. The TD was his third of the season and his first since the Indiana State game.
- Junior linebacker Fletcher Session picked up his first sack of the season and just the second of his career in the final seconds of the first half. He added a second sack with 10:17 remaining in the third quarter.
- Senior quarterback Cody Hodges threw two interceptions today to mark the first multiple-INT game of his career.
- Texas Tech receivers had another outstanding performance as four receivers each caught for more than 100 yards.
