Texas Tech Sails Over The Vikings, 2-1

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico - The Texas Tech women's soccer team rallied in the second half to beat the Vikings of Portland State, 2-1 at the UNM Soccer Complex this afternoon. Sophomore Jennifer Vasquez scored the game-winning goal.
Freshman Priscilla Esquivel opened up the scoring as she notched her third goal of the season at 25:31 of the first half, giving Tech the 1-0 lead. Freshman Jenifer Thomas was credited with assist on the Esquivel goal.
Portland State answered back at 36:12 of the first half as a goal from Julie Forrest put the Vikings on the board. The match was tied 1-1 at the half.
Sophomore Jennifer Vasquez scored her first goal of the season and the game winning goal at 67:24 of the second half. Sophomore Jenna Wetzel tallied her first assist of the season on the Vasquez goal. Junior goalkeeper Beth Lippert shut down the Vikings offense during the second half.
Lippert, who got the start in goal for the Red Raiders, made five saves as Tech was out shot 22-16.
Texas Tech women's soccer returns to R.P. Fuller Stadium Fri., Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. as they battle Angelo State.
