LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech baseball team will begin its quests for the 2005 season on Thursday afternoon as the squad begins fall workouts at Dan Law Field.
Texas Tech is coming off a successful 2004 season as the Red Raiders finished third in the ultra-competitive Big 12 Conference and advanced to the NCAA Regionals, marking the ninth NCAA appearance in school history. The Red Raiders finished with a 40-21 overall record and the 40-win season was the 11th in school history.
The Red Raiders will be forced to fill some important holes in the fall season as Tech must replace first-team All-American first baseman Josh Brady who signed with the Milwaukee Brewers late in the summer. Tech will also have to replace second baseman Jose Delgado, outfielder Michael Mask and starting left-handed pitcher Dallas Braden who all signed professional contracts following their junior season. Senior shortstop Cameron Blair, a preseason candidate for Big 12 Player of the Year honors, returns this season and was the leading hitter in 2004 as he posted a .371 average with 14 home runs and took home various All-Big 12 and All-America honors.
All practices are open to the public and will begin at 2:15 each afternoon with the team taking off on Wednesdays.
