LUBBOCK, Texas -
Former Red Raider baseball standout Stubby Clapp has made the final cut for Team Canada and will represent his native country in the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens Greece.
Clapp, a native of Windsor, Ontario, will take his signature flip to Athens for the summer games to compete for Team Canada as eight team's battle for Olympic gold. Canada's first Olympic game is scheduled for August 15 against Chinese Taipei (please check local television listings for broadcast times).
Clapp played just one season at Texas Tech back in 1996 but quickly became one of the top fan favorites to ever wear a Red and Black uniform at Dan Law Field. He earned both All-Southwest Conference Honors and All-Region honors after posting 28 doubles (second all-time on the single season list at Tech), eight triples, 97 runs scored and had an on-base percentage of .524.
He joins former Lady Raider basketball All-American Sheryl Swoopes and current All-American and national champion trackster Jonathan Johnson as part of the Texas Tech contingent participating in the 2004 Summer Games.
