LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech shortstop Cameron Blair has been named the 2004 Alaskan Baseball League Player of the Year by statewide media outlets covering what is widely considered one of the top college summer leagues in the nation.
Blair, a 5-10 senior from Highland Park, wrapped up a stellar junior season at Texas Tech by garnering third-team All-America honors and continued his hot pace this summer with the Fairbanks Goldpanners. He led the club in hitting with a .360 average and belted a league-high 11 home runs in the wood bat league.
Despite being drafted in the 18th round of the 2004 MLB Amateur Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals, Blair has indicated that he plans to return to Texas Tech for his senior campaign. Last season he was one of the most dynamic hitters in the Big 12 as he hit .371 with 14 home runs and 81 RBI in 58 games.
