LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team lost a tough match to No. 29 Oklahoma State, 4-3, in Stillwater, Okla., today. The 67th-ranked Red Raiders fall to 11-10 overall and 2-4 in the Big 12.
All three of Tech's points came in singles play. No. 72 junior Jakob Paulsen defeated No. 25 Mark Van Elden, 5-7, 6-4, 14-12, at the No. 1 position. At No. 2 singles, freshman Bojan Szumanski beat Yevgen Bondarchuk, 6-3, 6-2. Tech's other point came from the No. 4 spot as freshman Dinko Halachev defeated Boris Kuharic, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.
The Red Raiders' doubles tandem of freshman Teddi DiBlasi and junior Michael Innerebner defeated Juan Felipe Diaz and Tomas Bohunicky, 9-8.
"Oklahoma State is a very good team that is ranked No. 29 in the country," said head coach Tim Siegel. "It was another close match for us. We were right in there. I felt the doubles was a key for us and I thought we should have won that point. Jakob had a very big win over a player who was ranked No. 25 in the nation."
Tech will play at Oklahoma tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. in its final regular-season match of the year.
