Lubbock, Texas - The Texas Tech men's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 59 Virginia Tech on Saturday, despite a singles victory by Tech sophomore Esat Tanik. The Red Raiders look to improve their 8-4 record when they play Rice tomorrow.
The match began at the Jack Hess Tennis Center but was relocated to the Downtown Club at the Met due to rain. Singles was played first, and the doubles competition was cancelled once the Hokies clinched the match.
Esat Tanik picked up a victory for the Red Raiders defeating Arvid Puranen, 5-7, 7-5, 6-2, at the No. 3 position. It was not enough, however, as Tech dropped the next four matches.
Tech (8-4) will play its final match on Sunday against No. 6 Rice at 12 p.m. in Houston.
