
Red Raiders Set to Host SMU

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Red Raiders have their third home game of the season as they host the Mustangs of SMU on Wednesday evening at the United Spirit Arena. The tip-off will be at 7:05 p.m.
Texas Tech is 2-1 for the non-conference season. The Raiders downed UNC Asheville in their season opener 119-55, then fell to TCU on the road 83-68, and regained their winning ways with a 93-41 win over Centenary at the United Spirit Arena on November 27.
The Tech/SMU game will air on KFWD-TV (channel 52) in the Metroplex. The game will not air in the Lubbock area. The satellite coordinates for the game are: AMC 9 - Transponder K8.
This game marks the 104th meeting of the two teams since the series began in 1944. Overall, Texas Tech leads the series 56-47. The Raiders old a 30-13 edge in games played in Lubbock and a 3-1 advantage on neutral courts. SMU has a ten game lead in the series (33-23) when playing on their home court.
Last season, the Mustangs topped the Raiders by three points, 62-59, to bring an end to Tech's three game win streak. At SMU, Andre Emmett led all scorers with 28 points. Bryan Hopkins led the SMU scoring with 19 points. Patrick Simpson had 9 rebounds and 11 points. Eric Castro added 10 points.
Seven current Red Raiders have played the Mustangs. Ronald Ross has faced them on three previous occasions and has averaged 7.0 ppg and 3.0 rebounds per game. Six additional Raiders (Ofoegbu, Giles, Jackson, Marshall, White, and Dora) have played in one outing against SMU.
In their last home game, Jarrius Jackson led all scorers with 22 points. Ronald Ross came off the bench to score 17 points. With his three steals in this game, Ronald is now tied with Geoff Huston (1975-79) for fifth spot on the career steals list with 127 thefts. Devonne Giles had 16 points and Damir Suljagic added 12. Tech's defense forced Centenary into 21 turnovers. The winning margin of 52 points was the sixth largest margin of victory in school history. Tech's 52 rebounds against the Gents are the most team rebounds since the Raiders grabbed 56 rebounds against Prairie View A&M on November 22, 2000.
