Lubbock, Texas - The Texas Tech Red Raiders return to the United Spirit Arena as they host the Gents of Centenary College of the Mid Continent Athletic Conference on Saturday, November 27. The tip-off will be at 8:05 p.m.
The university announced Monday that fans can redeem a ticket stub from the Tech-OSU football game and pay $5 for an upper-level seat to the Tech-Centenary men's basketball game at 8 p.m. Saturday at United Spirit Arena. Texas Tech's second home game and third game of the season will air on KFWD-TV (channel 52) in the Metroplex. The game will not air in the Lubbock area. The satellite coordinates for the game are: Galaxy 11 - Transponder K12.
The Raiders and the Gents have faced each other six times since the 1939 season. Tech has won all previous meetings. The teams last met on January 10, 1999, in Lubbock. The Raiders topped the Gents by 10 points, 51-41. The Raiders opened the season with a home win over UNC Asheville on November 19, by the score of 119-55. The 119-point output ties the score of the Texas Wesleyan game on November 30, 1981, for third place on the team's all-time single-game highs.
On Tuesday, the Raiders fell to TCU Horned Frogs 83-68. Devonne Giles led the Raider scoring with 19 points. He also led both teams with 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Martin Zeno, Curtis Marshall, and Jarrius Jackson each tallied double figures for the Raiders in their first road game of the season.
Last season, the Red Raiders were 23-11 and earned another trip to the NCAA Tournament. They downed UNC Charlotte (76-73) before falling to Saint Joseph's (70-65) in the NCAA's Second Round at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, New York.
The Raiders of 2004-2005 post a 12-man roster, which features three seniors, six sophomores, and three freshmen. Three starters return from last season (Ronald Ross, Jarrius Jackson, and Devonne Giles) and are joined by key reserves Drew Coffman, Darryl Dora, Curtis Marshall, Tanner Ogden, and LucQuente White. John Ofoegbu dons his Red Raider uniform after red-shirting last season. Freshmen Damir Suljagic and Martin Zeno have seen action in each of the first two games. It was announced that freshman Philip Harbaugh would red-shirt this season.
Bob Knight (Ohio State, 1962) begins his fourth season at the helm of the Raider program and has notched back-to-back-to-back 20+ wins in his first three seasons in Lubbock. In 38 seasons of coaching, he has taken his teams to post-season play 35 times.
Coach Knight numbers third among all coaches on the all-time career win list with 833 victories. He is the youngest of the four coaches (Dean Smith-879, Adolph Rupp-876, Bob Knight-833, and Jim Phelan-830) and the only active coach to ever reach that remarkable plateau of 800 career victories.
John Harris will call the courtside action for Texas Tech and former Red Raider Chris Cassidy will provide the analysis on KKAM (1340 AM), the flagship station for the Red Raiders. The game will be carried on the Texas Tech Television Network. Brian Jensen will call the play-by-play on the Texas Tech Television Network. Andy Hipsher will provide the color analysis.
After Centenary, the next home game is Wednesday, December 1, against the Mustangs of SMU. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
