
Fifteen Red Raiders Named to Big 12 Academic Teams

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Big 12 Conference announced this week that Texas Tech placed 15 players on the 2004 Big 12 Conference Football Academic All-Big 12 Team, including eight players on the first team.
Texas joined Tech in placing 15 players on the teams, while Nebraska led the way with 25 representatives. Iowa State and Oklahoma State followed with 14 and 12, respectively, while Baylor, Kansas and Missouri had 10 players each. Texas A&M (9), Colorado (7), Kansas State (7) and Oklahoma (6) were all represented.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the football academic all-league squad consisted of 83 first-team members combined with 58 on the second team. First team members consisted of those who have maintained a 3.20 grade point average or better, while the second team is those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher eight cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated in a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are eligible.
