Lubbock, Texas - The 2004-2005 Red Raiders take to the road for Tuesday's 7 PM tip-off against the Horned Frogs of TCU at Daniel-Meyers Coliseum in Fort Worth.
Texas Tech's first road game and second game of the season will air on KFWD-TV (channel 52) in the Metroplex and on the UPN channel in Lubbock. The satellite coordinates for the game are: AMC9 - Transponder K16.
The Raiders opened the season with a home win over UNC Asheville on November 19, by the score of 119-55. The 119-point output ties the score of the Texas Wesleyan game on November 30, 1981, for third place on the team's all-time single-game highs.
Curtis Marshall of the Red Raiders led all scorers with 30 points. His highest output of his Tech career is also the current scoring benchmark in the Big 12 Conference. Eight Red Raiders (Marshall, Suljagic, White, Dora, Coffman, Ross, Jackson, and Zeno) registered double figures against UNC Asheville.
The win marks the fourth year of the Red Raider program under the leadership of Coach Bob Knight. The Raiders have won each home opener under Coach Knight. Friday's game was also the fifth anniversary of the opening game in the United Spirit Arena. The largest season opening crowd (10,296) and the largest recorded student crowd (4,365) watched the Raiders sink 16 three-pointers and dish out 30 assists.
Last season, the Red Raiders were 23-11 and earned another trip to the NCAA Tournament. They downed UNC Charlotte (76-73) before falling to Saint Joseph's (70-65) in the NCAA's Second Round at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, New York.
The Raiders of 2004-2005 post a 12-man roster, which features three seniors, six sophomores, and three freshmen. Three starters return from last season (Ronald Ross, Jarrius Jackson, and Devonne Giles) and are joined by key reserves Drew Coffman, Darryl Dora, Curtis Marshall, Tanner Ogden, and LucQuente White. John Ofoegbu dons his Red Raider uniform after red-shirting last season. Freshmen Damir Suljagic, and Martin Zeno played 15 minutes and 20 minutes, respectively, in the season opener. It was announced that freshman Philip Harbaugh will red-shirt this season.
Overall, the Raiders lead the Texas Tech/TCU series 67-43. Each team has won 28 games when they've played at TCU. Tech leads the series 37-12 in Lubbock. TCU holds a one game edge (3-2) on neutral courts. Texas Tech has won the last two games.
TCU opened their season with a 90-61 win over Texas-Arlington on November 19, and then downed Shawnee State 74-60 on November 21.
Neil Dougherty (Cameron, 1984) begins his third season at TCU with a record of 21 wins and 36 losses.
Last season, TCU was 12-17 overall and they were 7-9 (9th) conference play. They return four starters from last season's team and have 11 players from their 2003-2004 roster.
Bob Knight (Ohio State, 1962) begins his fourth season at the helm of the Raider program and has notched back-to-back-to-back 20+ wins in his first three seasons in Lubbock. In 38 seasons of coaching, he has taken his teams to post-season play 35 times.
Coach Knight numbers third among all coaches on the all-time career win list with 833 victories. He is the youngest of the four coaches (Dean Smith-879, Adolph Rupp-876, Bob Knight-833, and Jim Phelan-830) and the only active coach to ever reach that remarkable plateau of 800 career victories.
