
Cross Country Shows Improvement at Mountain Regionals

Fort Collins, Colo. - Texas Tech cross country competed in the Mountain Regional event this morning. The event, hosted by Colorado State, was held at the Collindale Golf Course in Fort Collins, Colo. The men finished 13th of 15 teams and the women came out with a tie for 10th out of 16 teams.
The women's squad, running a 6K race, was led by Stefanie Calhoun. Calhoun had her first first-place team finish of the 2004 season with her time of 21:54 and a 27th-place finish overall. Second for the Red Raiders was Bridget Tidwell who clocked a time of 22:15.8. Placing third for Tech was Brionne Yosten who ran a 22:28.6. Katie Leonard ran a 22:57 and finished fourth on the team. Anna Hagood registered a time of 23:21.1. Kelly Blikre rounded out the Red Raiders with her time of 23:33.6.
The men's squad was once again led by Haron Lagat who finished with a time of 30:59.7 in the 10K race. Lagat finished 33rd overall. Second for the Red Raiders was Benson Cheserek who ran a 31:20.4. Rob Kalescky finished third for the team with 33:22.3. Pedro Vargas ran a 33:42. Adam Lawless clocked a 34:29.6 and finished fifth for the team. Rounding out the Red Raiders was Nick Eyhorn who registered a time of 34.37.7.
The men's and women's squads of University of Colorado captured the team titles. Matt Gonzales from the University of New Mexico came in first with a time of 29:45.10. Renee Metivier of the University of Colorado finished first for the women with a time of 20:05.4.
The Red Raiders will find out if they earned a spot at the NCAA Championships later next week. The championships will be held in Terre Haute, Indiana, on Nov. 22.
