
Red Raider Soccer Defeated in 2OT Heartbreaker, 3-2

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's soccer team (3-16-0, Big 12 0-10-0) concluded the 2004 season falling short to the Baylor Bears, 3-2, in a double overtime heart-breaking match. The Red Raiders out-shot the Bears, 20-18 and registered 13 shots on goal.
The Tech offense was driven by freshmen Ashley Reed and Lauren Lothrop who each had a goal during the match. Reed, recently named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, scored the first goal of the match with five minutes left to go in the first half. Reed finished the season with four goals and one assist.
Lothrop, another mainstay of the Tech offense, scored the fourth goal of the match at the 81st minute of play. Lothrop's goal, scored on a penalty kick, tied the match at two and the teams went into overtime. Lothrop finished her rookie season with one goal and three assists. The Red Raiders were two-for-two on penalty kicks this season. The first period of overtime was scoreless and the teams played on until Margaret Kaderli, of Baylor, scored the game-winner in the 103rd minute of play.
The Red Raider offense registered 13 shots on goal from seven different players. Sophomore Jenna Wetzel had four, freshmen Priscilla Esquivel, Jenifer Thomas and Lothrop each had two and junior Kim Warren and freshmen Ashley Reed and Alex Aton were credited with one each.
Knauss made her ninth start in goal for the Red Raiders. She played the entire 103 minutes for Tech as she tallied eight saves. Her save total for the season totaled at 54 as she led the Red Raider goalkeepers in saves.
