Tech Women Take First at UTA-Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas - Tech's cross country teams made a great start to their season today with a women's first place finish and a men's second place finish at the UTA Invitational in Arlington, Texas. In his first collegiate run, Benson Cheserek claimed first, leading the team to a second place finish while Brionne Yosten claimed a team-best third place finish for the women.
The field included North Texas, SMU, UT-Arlington and Texas Tech. The women scored 29 points, nine points ahead of second-place SMU. The men's race was a tight one with Tech finishing at 36, one point behind SMU. Karin VanRooyen of SMU won the women's division.

Mens: Benson Cheserek, 1; Joe McCellon, 3; Dwayne Benoit, 6; Adam Lawless, 12; Adam Barrett, 14; Nicolai Luksza, 17 and Steven Morales, 22. Womens: Yosten, 3; Irene Kimaiyo, 4; Katie Leonard, 5; Abby Schubert, 7; Kelly Blikre, 10; Tracie Akerheilm, 11 and Stephanie Calhoun, 15.
Tech will make its appearance next weekend at the UNM Lobo Invite in Albuquerque, N.M.
