COMING UP THIS WEEK
The Texas Tech women's soccer team returns to action on Friday night as they will travel to the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex to take on the SMU Mustangs at 7 p.m. The Red Raiders will then take on the TCU Horned Frogs on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium.
DIFFICULT OPENING WEEKEND
Texas Tech head coach Felix Oskam didn't exactly get the opening weekend he was hoping for as the Lady Raiders fell victim to mother nature and the Oral Roberts Lady Eagles. Tech's match on Friday night was cancelled due to heavy thunderstorms in the Lubbock area. The two teams managed to play a scoreless half before the game was called after halftime.
Texas Tech then traveled to Tulsa, Okla. for a Sunday night match-up with Oral Roberts. After a scoreless first half, Texas Tech gave up three goals and ended up on the losing end of a 3-0 shutout.
THIS AND THAT
- Texas Tech will be looking to snap an 18-game losing streak that began with a 1-0 loss to Southwest Texas on Sept. 6 of last season.
- The 2003 captains are seniors Kerri Campbell, Catie Arsenault and Tiana Boyea. Campbell was a second-team All-Big 12 selection last season and will anchor the midfield.
- Texas Tech will face an SMU Mustang team that has been ranked as high as No. 22 this year and is currently the No. 8 team in the region.
- Three Big 12 schools are currently ranked in one of the four soccer polls (Texas, Texas A&M and Nebraska).
