LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Soccer team picked up its first Big 12 win in almost three years as the Red Raiders edged the Kansas Jayhawks 3-2 on Sunday afternoon in front of 652 fans at R.P. Fuller Stadium.
"This was a big win," said head coach Felix Oskam. "We showed a lot of character after what happened to us on Friday night. I challenged our team before the game and I asked them what team would show up. With all of the injuries we have had, I am just really proud of how hard we fought."
Kim Warren scored the go-ahead goal at the 72:13-mark in the second half on an assist from Catie Arsenault. The goal helped Tech win its first Big 12 Conference match since defeated the Oklahoma State Cowgirls on Oct. 1, 2000.
The Red Raiders struck first as Catie Arsenault scored on a break away 13 minutes and 56 seconds into the game after being assisted by Kim Warren. Kansas even the score at the 32:41-mark when Jessica Kilpatrick scored on a deflection from 10 yards out.
The Jayhawks took a 2-1 lead shortly after the intermission when Michelle Rasmussen scored at the 54:30-mark with an assist from Stacy Leeper.
Junior Jordan Wicker tied the game for the Red Raiders when she struck from the far-right corner (59:38) on a great pass from senior Kerri Campbell.
Texas Tech returns to action on Friday night as the Colorado Buffaloes come to town for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
