Tech Cross Country Finishes Second and Sixth at Lobo Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas - The women's cross country team finished at second while the men placed in sixth at the Lobo Invitational Saturday morning in Albuquerque, N.M. The race was held at the UNM golf course with unfamiliar terrain with the course featuring rolling hills which was an adjustment for the runners.
The women finished in second out of 13 teams with a score 62 at the 6K race. The 23rd ranked Colorado State team won with a score of 36. Brionne Yosten was Tech's top finisher at second with a time of 22:44. Katie Leonard finished in ninth with a time of 22:55. Abby Schubert with a time of 23:05 placed in 14th. Irene Kimaiyo placed in 16th after running the course in 23:12. Kelly Bilkre ran a 23:20 to finish in 20th. Stephanie Calhoun finished in a 21st place tie with a time of 23:45. Tracie Akerheilm ran a 24:02 to finish in a 29th place tie.
The men's team finished in sixth of 14 teams with a score of 185 at the 8k race. The 23rd ranked Colorado State team won with a score of 35. Benson Cheserek was Tech's top finisher with a time of 25:36 and a 17th place finish. Joseph McCellon ran a 25:58 to finish in 23rd. Dwayne Benoit with a time of 26:45, finished at 39th. Adam Lawless ran a 27:54 for a 73rd place finish. Rob Kalesky with a time of 28:06 finished at 75th. Nicolai Luksza ran the course in 28:50 to finish in a 87th place tie. Adam Barrett ran a 29:43 to finish in a 76th place tie.
The cross country teams will head to Minneapolis, Minn., next weekend to compete in the Roy Griak Invitational.
