LUBBOCK, Texas - After a year of planning, Texas Tech Director of Athletics Gerald Myers and head baseball coach Larry Hays announced today that RaiderVision will come to Dan Law Field as a new video scoreboard will be installed for the upcoming 2004 season.
The video scoreboard will be installed at Dan Law Field at a cost of $560,000 and will be paid for entirely by corporate sponsorship dollars. The South Plains Ford Dealers will serve as the title sponsor with United Supermarkets, First Bank and Trust, Coca-Cola, LP&L and Sergeants Flea and Tick serving as contributing sponsors.
The installation of the new video scoreboard will mean that RaiderVision will be offered at three Texas Tech facilities (Jones SBC Stadium, United Spirit Arena and Dan Law Field). Dan Law Field will become the fourth baseball stadium in the Big 12 Conference to have a video scoreboard joining Texas A&M, Nebraska and Baylor but will be the first screen in the Big 12 to offer live action. Tech baseball fans will be one of the first in the Big 12 to benefit from instant replay and the screen will be the largest in the conference as the video screen portion will measure 15'5'" tall by 20'7" wide. The video screen will also give the athletics department the ability to televise games as part of the Red Raider Sports television package.
"I can't tell you how excited I am to see this project become a reality," said head coach Larry Hays. "We are so fortunate here at Texas Tech because of the great commitment for baseball from both our administration and the Lubbock community. This new video board will help our recruiting tremendously because there are only a few of these in the entire country at college baseball stadiums. I think this shows just how big college baseball is becoming on a national level and I hope that our fans will really enjoy this nice new addition to Dan Law Field."
A construction date will be set in the next week with a completion date set for the end of the year.
