
Tech Women Take First at Kachina Classic

LUBBOCK, Texas - Behind the legs of junior Bridget Tidwell, the Texas Tech women's cross country team placed first while the men finished second at the Kachina Classic in Las Curces, N.M., Saturday.
Tidwell was one of a trio of Tech runners to place in the top 10. The Crawford, Texas, native placed fifth with a time of 19:27 and was closely followed by Tracie Akerheilm (19:38) and Abby Schubert (19:45) who placed sixth and seventh respectively.
The men were paced by Joseph McCellon who ran to a third place finish of 23:52 as the only Red Raider to place in the top 10. Kyle Atwood and Dwanye Beniot place 11th and 12th with time of 25:43 and 25:44, respectively.
The women scored 24 points to win the meet, 14 points ahead of second place UTEP while the men scored 48 points to place second.
Both teams will have a week off to prepare for the Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla., on October 5.
