
Tech Cross Country Looks to Keep Pace in New Mexico

LUBBOCK, Texas - After a week off the Texas Tech cross-country team returns to action in Albuquerque, N.M. this Saturday to run in the Lobo Invitational at 10 a.m. against 13 other schools.
Both the Tech men and women took first in its opening race of the season, the Texas Tech Open on Aug. 31. But this weekend's meet will see the Red Raiders run against the likes of Air Force, LSU, New Mexico, New Mexico State and UTEP.
The top finisher for the men's team last time out was sophomore Rob Kalesky who recorded his first collegiate win with a time of 28:50.00 for the 8K course. Joseph McCellon (28:54.00), Dwayne Beniot (29:37.00) and Quinn Smith (29:43.00) all finished in the top seven for the Red Raiders.
The women were paced by the legs of Bridget Tidwell who placed second with a time of 19:43.00 for the 5K Mae Simmons course. Tracie Akerheilm (19:51) finished in third while Kelly Blikre and Katie Leonard all finished in the top six.
Next weekend the teams will travel to Las Cruces, N.M., to run in the NMSU Kachina Classic, scheduled for an 8 am start time.
