LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech Head Baseball Coach Larry Hays announced the 2003 schedule today that will have the Red Raiders playing in a total of 56 regular season games with 36 of those games being played at Dan Law Field.
"I really like our schedule this year because we get so many opportunities to play at home," said Texas Tech Head Coach Larry Hays. "We are going to have several holes to fill in our lineup and playing at home in front of your own fans makes the transition a little easier."
The schedule features five teams that advanced to the 2002 NCAA Tournament and two teams that advanced to the College World Series including a road series at defending national champion Texas. The Red Raiders will play a total of 36 home games at Dan Law Field which is the most home dates since Texas Tech played at home 38 times in 1991.
The Red Raiders will give the home fans quite an opening to the 2003 season as the squad will play 21 of their first 24 games at Dan Law. Texas Tech opens the season on an 11-game homestand when the New Mexico Lobos come calling on Jan. 31 for a three-game series.
Texas Tech will host four crucial Big 12 series this year as the Red Raiders will take on Texas A&M March 21-23 while hosting Kansas April 11-13 before wrapping up the month of April with the Nebraska Cornhuskers (April 25-27). Texas Tech will conclude the 2003 regular-season with a three-game home series against the Oklahoma State Cowboys May 16-18.
The Big 12 Tournament returns to Oklahoma City in 2003 and action will get underway Wednesday, May 21 at the Bricktown Ballpark and run through Sunday, May 25. The NCAA Regionals will begin on May 30 and run through June 1 while the Super Regionals are set for June 6-8. The regionals and super regionals are played at campus locations across the country.
The 2003 College World Series will be held at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb. June 13-23.
Season tickets for the 2003 season will go on sale on October 23 to the general public while renewals will begin Sept. 13. Season ticket packages will remain the same as last season despite three mores games and will be available for $165.00.
"We felt that is was extremely important to reward our loyal season ticket holders by not increasing the cost of season tickets in 2003," said Hays. "People always ask me how they can help recruit and I always say the best thing they can do is buy a ticket and help us fill up the stadium."
Note: The Red Raiders will not be participating in the Astros College Classic as only two Big 12 teams will participate in the annual tournament on a yearly basis. Texas Tech will return to the tournament in 2004 along with the Texas Longhorns.
