LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech Head Baseball Coach Larry Hays announced today the signing of pitchers Brock Johns and Randy Gattis to National Letters of Intent and both will join the Red Raiders this fall.
Brock Johns, a senior at Andrews High School, recently picked up District 4-4A Most Valuable Player honors after posting an impressive 14-2 overall record with a 1.11 ERA. Johns threw a perfect game this year against Big Spring and then threw a no-hitter against Frenship late in the season. Johns was named Pitcher-of-the-Year on the All-South Plains High School Baseball team that was picked by the staff at the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.
Randy Gattis, a senior at Mesquite High School in Mesquite, Texas, played in 14 games this season and posted a 6-4 overall record with three saves. Through 71 innings of work, Gattis tallied an ERA of 1.99 with 85 strikeouts. Offensively, he batted .414 on the year with 40 RBI and 16 doubles. He was drafted in the 39th round of the Major League Draft by the New York Yankees.
"We are really honored to have both of these players come to Texas Tech to become Red Raiders," said Texas Tech Head Coach Larry Hays. "You can't put a price tag on the collegiate experience and both of these players are about to experience the best facilities and the best fans in all of college baseball. They will be big additions to our team and as a coaching staff we look forward to working with them."
