LUBBOCK, Texas - Andre Emmett scored 31 points and Kasib Powell added 22 to lead Texas Tech to a 98-71 victory over New Mexico Wednesday night.
The Lobos couldn't keep up with the pace of Emmett and Powell, who crafted points off turnovers and steals that often ended in easy dunks.
Emmett, who was 13-of-16, scored 12 of his points in a three-minute stretch midway through the second half before leaving the game.
The Red Raiders never trailed, taking an 8-0 lead from which New Mexico never recovered.
Tech (6-1) widened its lead gradually, extending it to 31 with 14:58 remaining in the game. New Mexico (3-4) could come within only 21 at the 2:50 mark after consecutive 3-pointers by Mark Walters.
Tech led 56-32 at halftime, its highest first-half total of the season.
Coming off its only loss, Tech started hot, shooting better than 71 percent on 15-of-21 through the first 11 minutes of the game. The Lobos, who were without their starting guards because of illness and injury, shot 34 percent on 12-of-35 field goals.
Bob Knight made a change in his starting lineup after a 67-62 loss to Wyoming, starting Nick Valdez and Ronald Ross instead of Will Chavis and Pawel Storozynski.
Chavis came off the bench late in the first half to contribute five points during a 13-5 run.
Ruben Douglas scored 23 points and Jeff Hart added 14 for New Mexico.
