Lubbock, Texas - The Texas Tech Men's Basketball program has added to its front line today with the addition of Mike Travis.
Travis, a 6-foot-8, 215-pound sophomore from City College of San Francisco has signed a National Letter of Intent with Texas Tech University. He becomes the second Red Raider signee to have completed his NLI paperwork for the 2003-2004 season.
Travis averaged 11 points last year as CCSF had the nation's top scorer at 33 points per game, but Travis led the team in rebounding and was first-team All-Coast Conference.
Brad Duggan, CCSF department chair of physical education, athletics, and dance, has remarked, "We won 33 of 35 games last year mainly because of Mike. He'll be a great match for Texas Tech and their athletic program. He's getting better with each game. As a player, Mike is very competitive, loves to play defense, and doesn't care about scoring. "
Duggan knows his basketball. He's had two players play for Coach Knight. - Mark Robinson and former NBA player Dean Garrett. Duggan said Travis is similar to Garrett at the same age. "In two years, he'll be a tremendous player. He can defend the 6-8 guy, but he can also guard the 6-1, 6-2 guy and that's really rare. And he can board very well."
Travis, a product of Thurgood Marshall High School in San Francisco, was recruited by Oregon, Oregon State, and the University of San Francisco.
