Tech Women Place 5th at Cowboy Jamboree

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's cross-country team ran its way to a fifth place finish while the men placed 16th at the Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla., Saturday morning.
The women were paced by the legs of junior Bridget Tidwell who turned in Tech's best finish of 18:35 for 19th place. Katie Leonard and Tracie Akerheilm placed 29th and 30th, respectively. As a team, the Red Raiders placed fifth with 157 points behind Georgetown who won the meet with 50 points, Southwest Missouri State (57), Kansas (106) and the Air Force Academy (109).
The men's team placed 16th with 419 points. The Red Raiders best finish came from Joseph McCellon, who placed 45th with a time of 25:45. Rob Kalescky and Kyle Atwood were the only other men who placed in the top 100.
Tech will have a weekend off before its next scheduled meet, the Chili Pepper Invitational, in Fayetteville, Ark., Oct. 19.
