LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Athletics Department announced today that the 2003 baseball season tickets are currently on sale through the Texas Tech Athletic Ticket Office with approximately 1,200 season seats available.
This is the earliest date that baseball season tickets have been made available for purchase to the public and after renewals only 1,200 seats remain. Season tickets did not increase in price from the 2002 season and the department is offering three different season ticket packages. The season ticket package for all 36 home games is priced at $165 while the Big 12 Games Package is priced at $72. The Pinch Hitter Package is available for $96 and includes 18 ticket vouchers good for any game of the season.
"We felt like we owed it to our loyal baseball fans to put these season tickets on sale earlier than usual," said Russell Warren, Assistant A.D. for Ticket Operations. "In the past we have put our season tickets on sale in January and offered them for just a couple of weeks. We hope that by offering season tickets earlier in the year, it will help our fans out financially and also give them plenty of time to purchase."
The Tech baseball team is coming off a 42-20 season in which the squad finished in second-place in the Big 12 regular-season standings and made its eighth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. Texas Tech is also expected to have finished in the national Top 15 in home attendance for the ninth consecutive year when the NCAA releases attendance numbers for the 2002 season later this month.
"The number one question I get from our fans is "how can I help you recruit," said Texas Tech Head Coach Larry Hays. "I always tell them that the biggest thing they can do for our program is to show up for every game. Recruits only want to play in front of packed houses so attendance at our games is crucial in our recruiting efforts."
"I firmly believe that we have the very best fans in all of college baseball and our kids love to play at home," said Hays. "Our fans are knowledgeable of the game and do so much for us when it comes to upping our intensity on the field. We have really worked hard to create a family-based atmosphere at Dan Law Field and I encourage everyone to go out and buy season tickets and come spend some quality time at the ballpark. I really think we have a special team this year and they should be exciting to watch."
The Red Raiders will play a total of 36 games at home this season that is the most home dates since the 1991 season. Tech opens the 2003 season at Dan Law Field on Friday, Jan. 31 against the New Mexico Lobos and will play 21 of its first 24 games of the season at home.
