Tech Men's And Women's Cross Country Heads Home

NORMAN, Okla. - The Texas Tech men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Big 12 Cross Country Championships, in Norman, Okla., earlier today placing 12th and 10th respectively.
The men finished the meet with a team score of 346. Sophomore Quin Smith who placed 64th finishing the 8,000-meter course in a time of 26 minutes 3.3 seconds led the men's team. Sophomore Scott Moore, 85th, sophomore Nick Hulstrom, 88th, junior Adam Dobbs, 89th and freshman Rob Kalesoky, 94th, round out the top five Red Raider finishes.
For the women sophomore Katie Lyman placed 24th completing the six-kilometer course in a time of 21:47.4 to lead the Red Raiders to their 207-point 10th place finish. Sophomore Tracie Akerhielm who placed 33rd and Shannon Spaulding who placed 34th followed Lyman.
Colorado swept both the team and the individual titles, the sixth straight win for the men and the fifth title in six years for the women. Colorado's Jorge Torres defended his title from last year's Big 12 championship claiming his second individual title in the men's 8,000-meter race, finishing in 23:35.3 seconds. CU's Molly Austin won the women's individual title finishing with a 20:12.5 mark.
