Track's Green Wins Twice at ACU

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech freshman Tiffany Green won both the women's 100m and 200m events on Thursday to lead the Red Raider track and field team at the ACU Track & Field Classic in Abilene, Texas.
Green posted winning times of 11.30 in the 100m and 23.50 in the 200m, both wind-aided, on Thursday evening on the Abilene Christian University campus. Tami Zachary took third in the 100 in 11.63, while Rachelle Evans was fourth in the 200 in a time of 25.35. Green's two winning times were the fastest in both events this season for a Tech runner.
Melonie Barrow also had a victory for head coach Wes Kittley, taking the 400m in 54.89, as the Red Raiders went 1-2-3 in the event. Ngozi Iwu was second in 55.70, while Evans came in third in a time of 56.14.
Freshman D'Andria Brigham finished second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:02.00, her fastest time of the year in the hurdles. The women's 4x100-meter relay team of Monique Wright-Cruse, Green, Evans and Zachary posted a winning time of 45.11. Pole vaulter Ashley Ramsey cleared a season-best 11-0.25 in finishing fourth. Bliss Williams also took fourth in the long jump with a mark of 18-4.5.
Megan Schuessler led the women in the throwing events, capturing first in the shot out with a season-best mark of 43-9.75. Schuessler also came in second in the discus with a toss of 147-10, while Tracy Anderson was third in the discus (143-4). Candice Cole also took first in the javelin with a season-best throw of 122-8.
For the Tech men, freshman Saidric Williams won the 200m in a time of 21.04 while taking second in the 100m in 10.11. Both events were wind-aided, and the 100 time was a season-best for Williams.
Antonio Franklin came in fourth in the 400m in 48.57, while Dwayne Benoit took fourth in the 800m in 1:54.95. Joseph McCellon won the 1500m run in 4:01.82, while Bronzay Rivera took third in the 400 hurdles in 53.38.
Mike Beasley tied his season-best mark of 7-0.5 for second place in the high jump, while Olavi Paavo cleared a season-best and team-best 16-0 in the pole vault. Paavo also came in fifth in the long jump with a mark of 23-3.25.
Ryan Curry finished third in the discus throw with a mark of 174-5, his season-best, as well, and then took second in the hammer throw with a mark of 151-7. Ryan Luna was Tech's final winner, taking the javelin with a mark of 219-7.
The squad will participate in next week's Big 12 Championships in College Station, Texas, May 18-20.
