THE RED RAIDERS
Texas Tech returns home following a four-game home stretch that took the Red Raiders to Manhattan, Kansas and Albuquerque, N.M.. Texas Tech earned wins over Kansas State on Friday and Saturday but saw their six-game win streak come to an end on Sunday against the Wildcats. The Red Raiders rebounded on Tuesday by posting an 11-9 win over New Mexico on Tuesday. Texas Tech comes into this weekend's match-up with Oklahoma State sporting a 19-11 overall record and 4-5 mark in the Big 12.
For the second week in a row, the Texas Tech pitching staff earned the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week award. This week's award went to senior Brandon Roberson who pitched a complete game shutout of Kansas State on Friday.
Texas Tech is now entering a two week stretch without a non-conference midweek match-up. Texas Tech will face West Texas A&M on Tuesday April 10 in its next non-conference game.
Following the weekend series with Oklahoma State, the Red Raiders will head to Columbia, Mo for a three-game set with the Missouri Tigers. Texas Tech will then return home for a seven-game homestand that begins with the Iowa State Cyclones on April 6th and concludes with arch rival Texas A&M on April 15th.
RED RAIDERS ON THE AIR
For the eighth consecutive season, the entire Texas Tech baseball game schedule will be broadcast live on the Red Raider Radio Network and made available to its statewide affiliates. Play-By-Play voice of the Red Raiders Mark Finkner will make the call in this his sixth season. He will be joined by popular color commentator Ryan Hyatt who will be in the broadcast booth for his fourth season. Finkner and Hyatt will host a 20-minute pregame show and will have postgame interviews with players and coaches. Tech baseball games can be heard locally on KKAM 1340 AM.
LAST TIME OUT
Junior standout Nick Blankenship went 4 for 4 with two RBI to lead the Texas Tech Red Raiders to an 11-9 win over the New Mexico Lobos before 751 fans at the Albuquerque Sports Stadium on Tuesday night.
With the win, Texas Tech improves 19-11 on the season and earned the series win over New Mexico (12-20) this season 3-2.
Texas Tech scored five runs in the top of the first inning thanks to four hits and two walks issued by Lobo starter Jason Bengert. The inning was highlighted by a three-run triple by Kerry Hodges that was hit deep into right field. New Mexico put up their first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning when Mark Okano scored on an RBI single by Aaron Stanley.
Texas Tech and New Mexico both put up a run in third giving Tech a 6-2 advantage. The Red Raiders scored two runs in the top of the fourth on an RBI triple by Gera Alvarez and an RBI single by Nick Blankenship.
The Lobos charged back in the bottom of the fifth scoring four runs on a crucial error by Tech second baseman Bryon Smith. New Mexico added a single run in the bottom of the seventh to pull within one (8-7).
Junior Chad Ertel (2-2) earned the win for Texas Tech while Jason Bengert (2-3) suffered the loss for New Mexico.
