LUBBOCK, Texas --The Texas Tech men's tennis team (5-8, 1-2) battled cold winds on Friday to defeat Oklahoma (2-3, 0-1), 6-1 at the Tennis Center in Lubbock.
The win gives Tech its first Big 12 Conference victory of the campaign and ups its record to 5-8 overall and 1-2 in league action. The Sooners fall to 2-3, 0-1 in Big 12 play.
Tech won all three doubles matches, winning the doubles point and lost just one singles dual on the afternoon. Junior co-captain Royce Ramey notched his first career win in the No. 1 position by knocking off Oklahoma's Julio Martinez, 6-3, 6-2. He is improves to 3-1, 1-0 in league play since coming back from his rotator cuff injury he has gone 2-1, 1-0.
The win was also Tech's head coach Tim Siegel's 100th-career win at the helm of the Red Raiders. Siegel's all-time career record improves to 100-98.
Following today's action the Red Raiders will continue with league play when they swing into action against Oklahoma State on Friday, March 23, in Lubbock.
