Lubbock - Josh Washington of Lubbock Monterey High, and John Ofoegbu (O-fay-boo) of San Antonio Taft High, have signed National Letters of Intent with Texas Tech University.
Josh Washington, a 6'3" guard, is heralded as the No. 75 prep recruit in the nation, according to national analyst Bob Gibbons. As a junior, Josh averaged 21 points, eight rebounds, three steals and three assists per game.
Coach Knight knows players," Gibbons said. "He knows what he needs to win, and I strongly believe if he's recruited these two, they'll contribute to the program. I know Josh Washington will. He could be one of the top freshmen in conference next year. This is a good recruiting class for him."
Washington, a 6-4 guard is ranked as the No. 16 prospect in Texas by texashoops.com. Following in the footsteps of his dad, Joe, who also played basketball for Tech. Joe wore jersey No. 40, the same number Josh plans to wear under Coach Bob Knight.
"As long as he's happy, I'm happy for him," Joe Washington said. "I'm real proud of him and glad for him."
John Ofoegbu, a 6-8 forward, played in only nine Class 5A games last year after transferring from the Sunnybrook Christian Academy, a small private school in San Antonio. "Ofoegbu is the kind of kid who will really improve," said Mike Kunstadt, analyst for texashoops.com. "It's not just skill development. He'll also learn a lot about the mental game."
Ofoegbu weighs about 215 pounds. His father is an international Christian minister from Nigeria.
