Tech Soccer Falls To Huskers, 8-1

Lincoln, Neb. - The Texas Tech soccer team gave up five first half goals and was unable to mount a comeback as the No. 4 Nebraska Cornhuskers downed Tech 8-1 at Abbott Sports Complex in Lincoln, Neb., Sunday afternoon.
Nebraska's Maghan Anderson completed her second hat trick of the season at the 39:27 mark leading the Huskers to a 5-0 half time lead. Anderson would add an assist in the 48th minute giving her seven points for the day.
For the second straight game Tech's lone goal came from sophomore Rachel Mavris who scored in the 65th minute, unassisted, to avoid the shutout.
Nebraska (13-3-1, 7-1-1) would tack on two goals early in the second stanza, before Mavris' goal made the score 7-1. The Huskers would get an eighth goal when Tech freshman Roxanne Frilot redirected a ball into her own goal late in the game to end the scoring for the afternoon.
All total NU had seven players scoring points led by Anderson's seven and Paige Phillip's two goals giving her four points for the contest.
With the loss the Red Raiders drop to 4-14 and 0-9 in conference play. Tech will wrap up the 2001 season Friday night, looking for their first Big 12 Conference win of the season at R.P. Fuller Stadium, kick off is set for 7:00 p.m.
