FORT WORTH, Texas - The Texas Tech Red Raiders lost their second tough match in a row to start the season, dropping a 3-2 decision on the road to TCU Tuesday afternoon.
Tech (0-2-0) got on the board early during the match, with Carrie Graham scoring unassisted in the seventh minute of the contest for a 1-0 lead. The homestanding Horned Frogs knotted the match at one with a goal from Jennifer Maunder in the 11th minute.
The Red Raiders again went ahead in the 16th minute with a goal from Lindsey Wile, with Ellen McNamara picking up an assist. TCU finished a barrage of scoring in the opening minutes of the match with Maunder's second goal in the 19th minute.
Graham and her teammates continued to pressure TCU (2-1-0) keeper Shannon Wagner throughout the remainder of the first half and the match, as Wagner made six first-half saves and 14 in the match, but did not allow another goal after Wile's shot found the back of the net.
For the second match in a row, the Red Raiders surrendered the game-winning goal in the final 10 minutes of the match, with Jenn Coulson scoring on an assist from Jeanine Rogers in the 84th minute for the 3-2 Horned Frogs victory.
Tech outshot TCU 19-11 during the match, including a 16-8 advantage in shots on goal. Graham led the way for Tech with four shots on goal, while Kerri Campbell added three and Kelly Taylor, Tracy Loyd and Rachel Mavris had two apiece.
"The first half was a little disappointing. We seemed sluggish and lacked some intensity," Tech head coach Felix Oskam said. "But give credit to TCU, because they played a good possession game and knocked the ball around some when they needed to."
Tech returns to action this weekend in Baton Rouge, La., at the LSU Invitational. The Red Raiders play LSU at 7 p.m. Friday, then tangle with Mississippi Sunday at 11 a.m.
"We were unfortunate again. We're still struggling to put the ball in the net when we need to, as well as struggling to hold onto a lead. We'll have to go back to the drawing board and work hard to get ready for this weekend."
The Red Raiders open the home slate on September 14 against West Texas A&M.
