LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech head football coach Mike Leach hopes the continued improvement shown this week carries over to Saturday's full contact scrimmage at the Tech practice facility.
After not being pleased with Tuesday's workout, the first-year Red Raider coach said Wednesday's drills were a little better and then called Friday's practice the best of the week.
"We really had a good day, probably the best this week," Leach said. "The ones (first team) looked good against the twos (second team) and the twos looked good against the ones."
Tech practiced in shoulder pads and head gear, working on fundamentals and special teams before closing with a team period. The team period consisted of situational play polish and recognition on both sides of the line of scrimmage.
"We are still dropping too many balls and I'm not real happy about that," Leach said following the two-hour practice, "but as long as the effort is there I'm going to be pleased with that."
The Red Raiders will close week three of spring training with a full contact scrimmage Saturday afternoon at the practice fields. The practice is set to start around 3 p.m.
The Tech coaching staff is hosting over 100 high school coaches from Texas and New Mexico in a clinic on the TTU campus. In addition to viewing two practices, the coaches will hear lectures from Red Raider coaches and other prep coaches from the South Plains area.
