Upcoming For the Red Raiders...
The Red Raiders hit the road in the Big 12 this week with matches at Kansas and Missouri. Friday's contest against the Jayhawks starts at 4 p.m., and Sunday's match versus the Tigers begins at Noon.
The Red Raiders and Jayhawks have split four matches in the last four season, with Kansas taking a 3-2 victory last year in Lubbock. Carrie Graham and Jennifer Hamm each scored in the contest, with Hamm adding an assist.
Tech took consecutive wins over the Jayhawks in 1997 and 1998, winning 2-0 and 1-0, respectively.
Tech and Missouri have played five times, with the Tigers holding a 3-2 series edge. The two teams have alternated wins, with the Red Raiders taking a 4-1 victory at home last season.
Last year's victory over the Tigers began a streak of three wins in four matches in the Big 12 conference for Tech. The loss to Kansas was the only blemish in that streak.
Tech Keeper Peese Named Player of the Week
Junior solid in Tech's two weekend victories
Texas Tech junior goalkeeper Brittney Peese was named Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday.
The San Antonio, Texas, product allowed one goal in two matches this past weekend against Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, as the Red Raiders swept a pair of conference matches at home.
In Friday's match versus Oklahoma, Peese allowed one goal and made three saves in Tech's 2-1 victory. She followed that up with seven saves against Oklahoma State on Sunday in a 4-0 victory, the first shutout of the season for the Red Raiders.
The 5-8 Peese has 57 saves on the season, ranking her fifth in the conference. She also ranks sixth in the Big 12 in saves per game with 5.70. Peese continues to add to her school record for career saves. She began the season tied with Stephanie Carter for first on the all-time list with 141 career saves, and now stands at 198.
Brosnahan Scores Twice in Tech's 4-0 Victory
Red Raiders set new attendance record in win
Junior Melanie Brosnahan scored twice as the Texas Tech Red Raiders defeated Oklahoma State, 4-0, in Big 12 soccer action Sunday afternoon at R.P Fuller Stadium.
The match was played before 724 fans, a new single-game attendance record at Tech.
Brosnahan got the scoring started for the Red Raiders, putting back a rebound from inside the six-yard box in the 23rd minute. Tech held the 1-0 advantage heading to halftime.
The Red Raiders scored three times in the second half in a nine-minute stretch, including Brosnahan's second of the match and fourth of the season.
Junior Carrie Graham scored unassisted in the 60th minute for a 2-0 lead. Monica Miller then booted a deflected ball into the right corner of the net for a three-goal lead in the 65th minute.
Brosnahan tallied the final score of the match in the 69th minute, beating OSU keeper Katharine Doud one-on-one for the final 4-0 score.
Tech keepers Brittney Peese and JoDee Campbell combined for 10 saves in the match, and the Red Raiders outshot Oklahoma State 14-10.
Tech moved to 4-1 all-time against the Cowgirls, 3-0 at home.
Red Raiders Score 2-1 Victory Over Oklahoma
Marie Valdez has goal and assist in Tech win
The Texas Tech Red Raider soccer team scored a pair of goals in less than a minute deep into the second half en route to a 2-1 victory over the Oklahoma Sooners in Big 12 action Friday afternoon.
The Sooners scored their only goal in the game's 69th minute, with Logan Womack controlling a ball in the 18-yard box and shooting past the outstretched arms of the Tech keeper.
But the Red Raiders began to attack the net and get quality shots on goal. Ten minutes later freshman Kerri Campbell and junior Marie Valdez played a beautiful game and give-and-go on the far sideline, and Valdez booted a left-footed shot into the upper left corner of the net to knot the score at one.
Fifty-five seconds later Valdez fed junior Carrie Graham in the box, and Graham got one past Oklahoma goalie Jana Cunningham for the game-winner and a 2-1 Tech victory.
Tech outshot the Sooners, 18-13, in the match, including 13-4 in shots on goal. With the win, the Red Raiders improved to 5-0 all-time in conference home openers.

The Red Raiders dropped both matches in the tournament, losing 2-1 to host LSU on Friday, September 1, before suffering a tough 1-0 defeat to Mississippi on Sunday, September 3.
Graham had one assist and took seven shots in two matches, while Loyd played solid in both matches of the tournament against the Tigers and Rebels.

Tech Battles Through 1999 Season
The 1999 campaign started and ended with a national and conference powerhouse on the schedule, and in-between, a slew of tough opponents that challenged and demanded great play from every member of head coach Felix Oskam's squad.
The Red Raiders began the season with a hardfought, 1-0 defeat to Nebraska, a difficult task to open any campaign with a conference road match. Tech bounced back to win three of four conference matches later in the campaign, defeating then seventh-ranked Texas A&M, 1-0, in Lubbock.
The 8-11-1 final record included a 5-3 mark at home and a 4-6 record in the Big 12. The victory over the Aggies, as well as a 3-0 defeat of Texas, came during a stretch of four wins in five games, three of those in the conference.
Seven Raiders Earn Academic Honors
Seven Red Raiders earned academic honors from the Big 12 conference in 1999, including four current team members.
Seniors Lindsay Thompson and Kelly Taylor, as well as juniors Brittney Peese and Marie Valdez, all earned First Team Academic All-Big 12 honors after last season.
Thompson, a 5-4 midfielder from Houston, Texas, garnered the award for the second straight year. She is a psychology major.
Taylor, the 5-6 defender from Tulsa, Okla., also earned the honor for the second consecutive season. Taylor majors in history.
Peese majors in history and anthropology, and Valdez looks to earn a degree in biology. Peese played in 17 matches in `99, posting a 1.94 goals-against-average in net. She made 76 saves and allowed 34 goals.
Valdez played in 18 matches with two starts, recording one goal and one assist for the season.
Junior Melanie Brosnahan also earned first-team honors in both of her seasons at the University of Oklahoma before transferring to Texas Tech.
