LUBBOCK, Texas - Katie Antongiovanni controlled a long ball and rifled it into the back of the net in the final three minutes of the match, lifting Iowa State to a 3-2 victory in Big 12 soccer action Friday afternoon at R.P. Fuller Stadium
The visiting Cyclones got two goals from Krista Odenwald, one in each half, but found themselves in a tie match in the final minutes. But Iowa State caught the Red Raiders off-guard in their own defensive end, and Antongiovanni made them pay with the game-winner.
Odenwald put ISU ahead 1-0 in the 16th minute, beating keeper Brittney Peese short side on an assist from Nicole Wilcox. Tech missed a host of opportunities during the remainder of the opening half, but could not capitalize on the chances.
Melanie Brosnahan got the Red Raiders on the board, chipping past Cyclones goalie Elizabeth Chapman in the 57th minute on an assist from Kerri Campbell. But Odenwald came back just four minutes later, scoring an unassisted goal for a 2-1 ISU advantage.
Brosnahan again knotted the match in the 64th minute for her seventh goal of the year, intercepting a pass outside the 18-yard box and beating Chapman low and left for a 2-2 score.
Peese made six saves for the Red Raiders, as the Cyclones outshot Tech, 17-10.
The Red Raiders celebrate Senior Day on Sunday when they face fourth-ranked Nebraska at 1 p.m. at R.P. Fuller Stadium.
