LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech put the finishing touches on its game plan for top-ranked Nebraska with a 1-? hour workout in shells on the artificial turf in Jones SBC Stadium. The game is the sixth for the Red Raiders at home, where the team is 5-0.
"We had a great practice today," head coach Mike Leach said. "The guys are focused and ready to play. We will have a brief walk-through tomorrow to cap off a good week of practice."
The Red Raiders ran through the game plan, facing various Nebraska schemes through the scout team. Leach praised the work of the offense, noting how "sharp" the unit looked during the workout. He also noted the defense as "continuing to do what they've done all season."
The game will be televised on FOX Sports Net as the network's national game. Ron Thulin, James Lofton and Eric Clemons will call the action, beginning with a 6:07 p.m. (CT) kickoff.
Saturday's game is the fifth for a Red Raider football team against the nation's top-ranked team. Texas Tech faced No. 1 Texas in 1977, top-ranked USC in 1979, No. 1 Washington in 1982 and the Cornhuskers in 1994 when they were ranked first. The games against USC and Nebraska were played at Jones SBC Stadium.
Nebraska leads the all-time series with the Red Raiders 5-0. The inaugural game was played in 1976 in the Bluebonnet Bowl in Houston. NU won the initial meeting 27-24. The last time the two teams met, the Huskers handed the Red Raiders a 29-0 defeat in Lincoln.
