Texas Tech Baseball Begins Fall Workouts

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech baseball program began its fall workouts Tuesday in preparation for the 2000 baseball season. The Red Raiders are also preparing for the annual Red-Black Fall Baseball Series which is scheduled for Monday, October 4-Saturday, October 9 at Dan Law Field.
Practices during the fall generally begin around 2 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Wednesday is the weekly scheduled day off.
Forty-eight players reported for the first day of practice. The Red Raiders welcome back 17 letterwinners and six starters from a 42-17 team. Texas Tech completed its seventh consecutive 40+ victory season, its third season of hosting an NCAA Regional in the last four years and its fifth straight NCAA Regional appearance in the 1999 season.
Texas Tech head coach Larry Hays is one victory shy of 1,200 career victories. His current record is 1,199-640-2 overall in 29 years as head coach at both Lubbock Christian (16 years) and Texas Tech (13 years). Hays will enter his 30th season in 2000.
