Women's Cross Country Wins Red Raider Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's cross country team won the Red Raider Invitational with a score of 19 over South Plains College (37) and Easter New Mexico (83) Saturday morning at Mae Simmons Park. Texas Tech recorded the top two finishes with Kristen Koppes (Redding, Calif.) and Tara Hangge (Richland, Wash.) who ran marks of 19:48 and 20:36 respectively in the 5,000 meter run. The Red Raiders had five of the top 10 finishes in the 36 runner meet . Courtney Noles (Houston, Texas) finished fourth after completing the race in 21:43.9. Keeli Hanzelka (La Porte, Texas) was sixth with a time of 22:21 and Aimee Roberst 10th with a time of 22:55.
The men finished third out of the four teams at the five mile run Invitational with a score of 64. Finishing ahead of the Red Raiders were South Plains College with a score of 18 and West Texas A&M with a mark of 57. The top finisher for the men was Samson Ngetich (Londiani, Kenya) who was fourth overall out of 37 with a time of 28:43. The champion for the men was Michael Sang of South Plains College with a time of 25:59.
Both teams are scheduled to run again next week at the Nebraska Invitational at Lincoln, Neb. on Saturday, August 19.
