Red Raider Soccer Team Hands Out Annual Awards

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech soccer team handed out their yearly awards at a banquet held last Saturday. Sophomore Kristy Frantz received the team's Most Valuable Player Award for the second time, while senior Raney Terrell was given the Fighting Heart Award for the third consecutive season.
Frantz, led the Red Raiders in goals, assists and points during the 1997 season. She tallied 14 goals and five assists for a total of 33 points. She was a second team All-Big 12 pick at forward, an Academic All-Big 12 first team selection and named to the NSCAA/Umbro All-Region squad.
A four year letterwinner, Terrell started in 31 games and played in 49 as a Red Raider. She scored four goals and assisted on four others for a career total of 12 points.
Terrell, along with fellow senior Julie Clement, were recognized as the team's first four-year letterwinners. Also honored for academic achievement were Melinda Hemmer and Debra Smith. Both freshman maintained a 4.0 GPA during the 1997 season.
