LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women?s soccer team pulled off a 4-1 upset over the No. 20th ranked Missouri Tigers at R. P. Fuller Stadium. Tech, who won its first Big 12 game of the season, improves to 5-5-1 overall and 1-2 in the Big 12, while Missouri drops to 7-3 and 2-1 in conference play.
The Red Raiders jumped on the board just five minutes into the first half on a goal by sophomore forward Carrie Graham from senior forward Lizzy Biles. And then two minutes later, Graham scored again with an assist by junior defender Kelly Taylor whose shot deflected off the top of the post to set up Graham for the score.
In the second half, Tech sophomore Lauren Taylor scored the Red Raiders? other two goals with the first one coming at the 64:14 mark on an assist from senior forward Kristy Frantz. Three minutes later Taylor knocked in another one.
The Tigers scored their lone goal at the 72-minute mark.
?The team played really well and organized defensively,? said head coach Felix Oskam. ?We took some shots, but we were in the right place at the right time. We put pressure on them when we needed to. They (the Tech team) really deserved this win and I?m very happy for them today.?
Tech will host Big 12 conference foe Kansas on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. at R. P. Fuller Stadium.
