Mike Ryan joined Texas Tech University in 2012 and helps lead the Athletics Department in his role as Senior Associate Athletic Director. Ryan is a member of the department’s executive staff and has responsibility for overseeing operations of all Red Raider athletic facilities pertaining to scheduling, security, building and grounds, maintenance, budget, game day operations and university events for all 17 of Texas Tech’s intercollegiate sports.
Ryan serves as the department project liaison for construction projects pertaining to The Campaign for Fearless Champions. This $185 million campaign includes upgrades to 25 Texas Tech sporting venues for student-athletes and fans. Completed projects include renovations at the Jones AT&T Stadium North End Zone renovation and North End Zone Colonnade project, stadium seat replacement, stadium video board and sound system, Red Raider Club offices, ticket office project, multiple Field Turf replacement projects, Sports Performance Center project, renovations in athletics areas at the United Supermarkets Arena, as well as several other projects.
Ryan also serves as the sport administrator for Texas Tech men's and women’s tennis teams.
Prior to joining the Texas Tech family, Ryan spent seven years at Duke University, the last three of which as director of intercollegiate facilities. While with the Blue Devils, Ryan had direct responsibility for all athletics facilities including budget, housekeeping, grounds maintenance and university events. Additionally, he was responsible for the scheduling of athletics venues and game day operations.
During his time at Duke, he served as a project liaison between the athletics department and the university for projects such as the men's basketball locker room renovation, Cameron Indoor Stadium floor re-design, Jack Coombs Field (baseball) Astroturf installation, Pascal Field House (indoor football practice facility) and multiple scoreboard projects.
He began his professional career as a graduate assistant at Wichita State University in 2000 before accepting an internship at Texas State in March 2002. Ryan served as Assistant Director/Facilities and Operations at SMU from November 2002-July 2005.
Ryan grew up in Topeka, Kansas and then received his Bachelor of Arts degree in electronic journalism from Kansas State University in 1999, where he worked as a student assistant for the K-State Sports Network providing assistance in play-by-play coverage for K-State football, men’s basketball and selected baseball games. Ryan holds a master’s degree in Sports Administration from Wichita State University. He and his wife, Maggie, have three daughters, Taylor, Madison and Finley.
