August 21, 2026 | Women's Volleyball
The annual Red & Black scrimmage is today followed by one against UTEP tomorrow
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech volleyball will be hosting two free scrimmages this weekend before the season officially begins next weekend. The Red Raiders have their annual Red & Black scrimmage tonight at 6 p.m. followed by an 11 a.m. match against UTEP tomorrow, both matches will be played in the United Supermarkets Arena Practice Gym and are open to the public.
This will also be the first time that Tech plays on its new Taraflex court, a vinyl lining put over the court surface that improves safety for the student-athletes and offers a fresh look to the playing surface for the volleyball program.
Tony Graystone enters his 11th season as the head coach for the Red Raiders and is third all-time in program history for wins. Tech's roster this season features 10 underclassmen and nine upperclassmen showing a good balance of youth and experience. Katelyn Cochran, Reagan Engler and Emily Contreras all enter their fourth year with the Red Raiders as they look to have the most successful year during their tenure.
Maggie Boyd joins Texas Tech and indoor volleyball after spending four seasons at UCLA where she was named a four-time First Team All-American, the 2026 AVCA Beach Player of the Year and is a Beach National Champion. Her resume is as impressive as they come in collegiate athletics and her transition to the indoor game will be fun to watch.
Tech's roster also features impact transfers Gretchen Sigman, Sara Bowcutt and Taylor Cook who all hail from power four schools and will look to be in the rotation early. Freshmen Elia Dinsmore and Faith Jordan also have captured the attention of the coaches early while second year players Shelby Ignash, Kenna McKenzie and Maddie Smotherman look to build on a successful freshman campaign.
The Red Raiders will officially begin their season on the road on August 28 when they take on Wyoming and St. Thomas in Laramie.
