Texas Tech is pursuing a new power conference opponent after cancelation of N.C. State and North Texas games
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Athletics announced Friday changes to its 2027 football schedule with the cancelation of non-conference games against both N.C. State and North Texas.
N.C. State officials notified Texas Tech in recent weeks that due to a change in ACC scheduling, it would utilize a buyout clause in the home-and-home agreement with the two schools to cancel the Wolfpack's scheduled trip to Lubbock on Sept. 18, 2027. The two schools previously faced each other in Raleigh during the 2022 season to open the two-game series.
In order to maintain a minimum of six home games for 2027, Texas Tech will cancel its Sept. 11 trip to North Texas. Texas Tech is currently in the process of securing a replacement power conference opponent for the 2027 season as well as another non-conference game to replace North Texas.
"We have actively been working on our 2027 football schedule for several weeks now and hope to have a new agreement with a power conference and FBS school finalized soon," Texas Tech Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt said.
