IRVING, Texas -- After a five-game week that saw him hit .429 with three home runs, 13 RBIs and 11 runs scored, freshman Linkin Garcia has been named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week the league announced Monday.
A native of Huntington Beach, Calif., Garcia raised his average to .344 on the year recording all 13 of his RBIs this season over last weeks five games.
Due in large part to the heroics of Garcia, the Red Raiders offense exploded this past week, scoring 70 total runs in five-straight wins. Tech scored at least eight runs in all five of those contests.
Garcia homered twice on Tuesday night against UTRGV, helping the Red Raiders erase an 8-2 deficit. The two-homer game was the first by a Red Raider true freshman since 2024 when Landon Stripling homered twice against Texas Southern.
Sporting the programs longest winning streak since April of 2024 when the Red Raiders won eight straight games, Tech returns to action on Friday afternoon when they welcome Cal Bakersfield for a three-game series. First pitch from Rip Griffin Park is set for 2 p.m.
