
Blackburn earns Big 12 Defender of the Week

The All-American scored and tallied an assist to take home her second honor of the season
IRVING, Texas – For the second time in the season's first three weeks, defender Macy Blackburn has been named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
The Keller native earned her fourth all-time Big 12 Defender of the Week honor and second of the 2025 season.
Already the programs all-time leader in assists, Blackburn continues to rise up the Red Raider record books as with her goal and assist last Thursday, Blackburn recorded her 50th career point, becoming the 11th all-time Red Raider to reach the 50-point plateau.
Continuing to build off the momentum of her strong start to 2025, Blackburn delivered a perfect corner kick service in the 13th minute that found a wide-open Emilie McCartney for the first goal of the night.
In the 58th minute, Blackburn took matters into her own hands when she ripped a rising shot for her first goal of the 2025 season. The goal and the assist marked the fifth time in the defenders decorated career that she scored and recorded an assist.
With the goal and the assist Blackburn ran her assist total to five for the young season, which is good for the fifth-most nationally.
One of the Red Raiders captains, Blackburn also helped guide the backline to the programs 27th shutout since the start of the 2023 season and held the potent SMU attack to just nine total shots and one shot on goal.
Blackburn and the Red Raiders return to action on Thursday night at New Mexico State. First touch from Las Cruces is set for 8 p.m. (CT)/7 p.m. (MT).
