Texas Tech earned its highest ranking since 2013 Sunday after its 34-10 victory at Utah
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech's win over Utah on Saturday pushed the Red Raiders up to No. 12 in the Associated Press poll released Sunday afternoon as well as No. 14 in the latest AFCA coaches poll compiled by USA Today.
Â
This is the highest the Red Raiders have ranked in either poll since Oct. 20, 2013, when Texas Tech rolled off its seventh-consecutive victory to start its season under first-year head coach Kliff Kingsbury. Texas Tech's current 4-0 start is its best since that 2013 season.
Â
The Red Raiders continued their trend of impressive victories with a 34-10 win Saturday in front of a FOX Big Noon Kickoff audience at previously No. 16 Utah. The victory was Texas Tech's fourth straight by at least 24 points as the Red Raiders became the first Big 12 team to win each of its first four games by at least that margin since Baylor set a conference record with six-consecutive such wins in 2015.
Â
Texas Tech has the third-largest point differential in college football as the Red Raiders are outscoring opponents, 208-45, so far this season (163 points), which trails only Indiana (186) and Oregon (166). Texas Tech has only allowed three points through the first three quarters this season as 35 of the 45 points allowed have come after many of the Red Raiders' starters have departed the game with a large lead.
Â
The Red Raiders are one of only five teams in the country to pair a top-15 scoring offense with similar results on the defensive side of the ball, joining the likes of fellow ranked teams such as No.3 Penn State, No. 6 Oregon, No. 8 Florida State and No. 11 Indiana. Texas Tech is sixth in the FBS averaging 52.0 points per game so far this season, while its defense is 14th overall after giving up only 11.3 points per game.
Â
The victory at Utah pushed the Red Raiders into the first of two open dates on their schedule as Texas Tech resumes Big 12 play Oct. 4 at Houston before returning to Jones AT&T Stadium the following weekend for an Oct. 11 showdown with Kansas.
Â
Texas Tech has less than 250 tickets now remaining for the Homecoming contest with Kansas and fewer than 500 for the Nov. 8 home date against a BYU that is now No. 25 in the Associated Press poll. Tickets can be purchased online at TexasTech.com or by calling the Athletic Ticket Office beginning Monday morning at 806-742-TECH.
